Do Not Give in to Ego

How many times one fails too often because of the same mistake, that is giving in to one's ego?

How many people choose to defend their own standpoint out of ego, subsequently succumb to total failure as people right their wrong. If they stubbornly persist, you will find these people are one of the loneliest groups in the world.

How many seemingly great individuals work for fame and ruin their virtues, unknowingly, until the moment they realized they have lost precious people close to them?

I admit that myself too, do have some egos in me, fortunately, I made countless, continuous reflections daily along the journey, so I am very sure of what I am thinking, what has prompted me to make certain decisions.

Ego, itself is a very evil thing. It permeates into your thought without you even knowing it, then slowly it blurs your vision, poison your thoughts and potentially destroy the positive rapport you built earlier with people whom you care.

As I examine my own thought pattern, as well as observing the mannerism of people around me, I often spotted one flaw, they tend to inflate themselves by telling the world how great they are. Don't you realize it when you say you have achieve that and that on Facebook is also a manifestation of ego. (In fact, the reason why Facebook is so hugely successful is because it plays into our ego so well. Examine yourself WHY you posted certain things other than just plain reason of expressing yourself. No offense, you posted something because you wanted to be known, you wanted your friends to be happy for your achievement, and E.T.C reasons)

But all these very people who I categorize them as egoistic, they are not necessary bad people, but the opposite is rather more accurate. They have ambitions, dreams, desires (in Buddhism, we call these as attachment, but let alone Buddhism this time). They want to achieve some GREAT GOOD for mankind, at the same time, they want everybody knows about how great they are. Most of the people profess even before achieving great good for his family or even to himself. Like it or not, these very people could be your best friend, your snobbish lecturer, the list goes on and on.

I am not here to point out others' flaw, I am here to remind myself and my dear readers, do not give in to EGO. Observe your thought pattern, and be very careful in picking the RIGHT thought so as not to let EGO prevails against you.

"The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself." - Bill Gates

Note to self: Achieve great good for mankind and have nobody knew it except myself.

Cheers! =)

选择

选择,很重要。
真正地明白为何做了这样的选择更重要。

讲到选择时,我最爱quote The Matrik这部戏里说的这句话
Oracle: "You have already made the choice. You are here to understand why you make it..."

晚安 =)

Truth Seekers vs Skeptics

Dear trustworthy friends,

It must be by the arrangement of faith that you landed here at my site, if you believe.

There's a truth. Ppl r always skeptical to someone who says "I'm telling the truth." Let's learn more about how to be skeptical, why not? If the person is telling you ONLY, be skeptical. If this person is the ONLY one telling you this, let him/her finish what going to be said, there might be the possibility that you are hearing the truth.

Did you spot the difference between the two statements above? No, you don't get it?
We are always skeptical towards people, don't you? Ok...Are you SKEPTICAL to what I have just said? If no, you are a fool. If yes, you are going beyond skeptical this time but rather to really find the truth.
Before I continue, perhaps it's a wise move to check the words "skeptic" and "truth" together using our respective dictionary, ok?
............................................
Get back here and have a simple comparison of the meanings of the words.
Skeptic = a person who usually doubts that claims or statements are true, especially those that other people believe in
Truth = the true facts about something, rather than the things that have been invented or guessed

Skeptics are a group of people who MIGHT argue over things that are essentially TRUE. Well, I perceive they have their own reasons for being skeptical. Maybe they were once the victims of that particular matter, you know it can be anything.

There are unscrupulous skeptics who attempt to deny the truth despite having full knowledge of that truth. At this point, skeptics are showing the intention to mislead and confuse people. They are no longer a professional skeptic but reduced to infamous cheaters.

Let alone this example. Assuming skeptics be skeptical out of some strange mysterious discoveries which have consistently shown incongruity, and have the willpower to unveil the once-was-true truth. To perform the task completely, generally, a skeptic must be well equipped with great depth of knowledge in the subject that he/she is in conflict with.

So far so good?
Can you follow my argument? I hope so.

I would like you to recognize and remember this "What a group of people is doing may not be regarded as truth". Their practice might be accepted, but can never be deemed as a truth. Plenty of examples are going through my mind but I have to suppress myself from telling all at once. I still want you to continue be skeptical in what going to be shown next, but not to buy my idea so quickly. Because, after all, there stands a 50:50 chance that it could be true as well.

When read until here, some of you might be tired of reading it and you might be asking "why the hell a truth so matter to you?" out of frustration. Of course this won't happen if you truly know me, my friend, my brother.

It will never matter to you if you were not one of the victims of scams, lies and fraud. It will never matter to me if I could stare at my friends being deceived unwittingly. Prevent is better than cure. Make yourself aware to the traps before falling into one, and let me help you to create this awareness, ok?

There's a truth. Other than your parents and teachers, others are worth doubting. Even if papa, mama or teachers tell you the lies, they are meant to take you one step closer to the truth. And it's a universal truth that a truth does not change with time nor changed when it's approached using other methods. You may use method A, method B, ... method Z etc, but be sure you arrive at the right conclusion. I believe this isn't hard to understand if you see this in a mathematical view.

Truth can't be asked for, it must learnt and felt by the seekers. This isn't come from me, but from a pious religious friend of mine. Yeah, this is subtle. And I actually doubted a while of what he said probably because driven by my nature.

Sometimes, one needs to go beyond one's limit of faith in something which is essentially not real. Let's say one day you have been told that someone who you very trusted has betrayed you, how would you feel? What would react if you were so unfortunate to discover your trusted friend have betrayed you? One thing for sure, your trust to that person is like a broken vase that cannot be sealed. Isn't it a simple case of cause-and-effect?

There's a timeless truth: there's no free lunch in the world (borrowed from a favourite Mandarin phrase). So, if you were to bump into someone offering you sort of once-in-a-lifetime business/project, be wary of the trick up his sleeves.

What I shared here probably didn't help you in identifying what kind of truth I am talking or what are the tricks. Well, I got to say I write this with one purpose in mind: to instill the awareness in you that we are living in a world fraught with deception.

Doubt this if you wish to...
You can trust me, my fellow man!

Your trustworthy friend,
Max Lee
