How many people choose to defend their own standpoint out of ego, subsequently succumb to total failure as people right their wrong. If they stubbornly persist, you will find these people are one of the loneliest groups in the world.
How many seemingly great individuals work for fame and ruin their virtues, unknowingly, until the moment they realized they have lost precious people close to them?I admit that myself too, do have some egos in me, fortunately, I made countless, continuous reflections daily along the journey, so I am very sure of what I am thinking, what has prompted me to make certain decisions.
Ego, itself is a very evil thing. It permeates into your thought without you even knowing it, then slowly it blurs your vision, poison your thoughts and potentially destroy the positive rapport you built earlier with people whom you care.
As I examine my own thought pattern, as well as observing the mannerism of people around me, I often spotted one flaw, they tend to inflate themselves by telling the world how great they are. Don't you realize it when you say you have achieve that and that on Facebook is also a manifestation of ego. (In fact, the reason why Facebook is so hugely successful is because it plays into our ego so well. Examine yourself WHY you posted certain things other than just plain reason of expressing yourself. No offense, you posted something because you wanted to be known, you wanted your friends to be happy for your achievement, and E.T.C reasons)
But all these very people who I categorize them as egoistic, they are not necessary bad people, but the opposite is rather more accurate. They have ambitions, dreams, desires (in Buddhism, we call these as attachment, but let alone Buddhism this time). They want to achieve some GREAT GOOD for mankind, at the same time, they want everybody knows about how great they are. Most of the people profess even before achieving great good for his family or even to himself. Like it or not, these very people could be your best friend, your snobbish lecturer, the list goes on and on.
I am not here to point out others' flaw, I am here to remind myself and my dear readers, do not give in to EGO. Observe your thought pattern, and be very careful in picking the RIGHT thought so as not to let EGO prevails against you.
"The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself." - Bill Gates
Note to self: Achieve great good for mankind and have nobody knew it except myself.
Cheers! =)
