钟灵中学第13届三校联合运动会

17th August, the glorious day I ever achieved throughout these years. Yes, it was my school Sukan Gabungan Sekolah Menengah Chung Ling ke-13. This sport event is considered unique as 3 schools combines together participating in the athletic competition, namely SMJK CHUNG LING P.PINANG(host for this year), SMJK Private CHUNG LING and SMJK CHUNG LING BUTTERWORTH. Each school send their sport elites to compete with each at school level. Actually, 17th August 2007 was only the official day, many events had took place before this day. Overall, I took part in 5 events throughout the Sport Day, 3 individual events: 400m, 800m & 1500m and 2 relay: 4 x 100m & 4 x 400m. Besides winning all the events that I joined, I also won many friends and supporers. My mom and my younger brother also came and supported me. In the advent of 90th School Anniversary and 38th Alumni, every part of the school is beautifully decorated and renovated. So, Sukan Gabungan for this year is particularly grand and has the most visitor count that I ever seen ever since I stepped into the school started at year 2004. Magnificent!

What I most satisfied about is my performance in 400m event—I made another personal best time running on the field, that is 54.0 s. I never run 54s on field before. So surprise about myself! Hope to improve my time further in future. After gaining so many gold medals, I finally attain most honourable prize—Best Athlete Award. Bingo! This is my first time winning that prize in Sukan Gabungan, wonder is there any factors related to the organiser(my school as the host). Of course, I demand a fair and clean match. One deserves to be honoured if one has the genuine quality in one’s self. Hip! Hip! Hooray! Ops, overlooked something, yup, I was selected to take the oath for this year Combination Sport Day. Initially, I rejected to bear the challenge, afraid that I would "miss" words or unable to memorize the oath in both English and Malay language. Sir Suntheren persuaded me that I am the most competent athlete and should have a try. He also said that this year is very special as the next day of Sport Day is School Anniversary Celebration, that means many VIP will visit the school on that day. It would be very pleasant to stand on the stage and let everyone knowing me, let my name immortalized in Chung Ling.

Apparently, I did it quite well(according to my friends and mom comments), though there was a time I stopped for a while(so nervous that I forget it—one of my traits)

Now, I have to prepare for my coming event—>1500m. Like usual routine, I dashed along tar road then warm up every part of the body and finally do some simple drills. While warming up, I could hear cheers from my faithful supporters, "THANK YOU to you all" I whispered in my heart. Now the moment has approached, competitors are all ready standing behind the starting line ready to run once gunshot is heard. "Piam" I swiftly strided off to gain a better position, indeed I was in the first placing. My strategy is simple: Dash 1st round, maintain for 3.5 rounds and sprint at the last 0.5 rounds. *Note: 300m per round. Everyone cheered and even took my photo while I was in the race. Finally, I successfully completed the whole course within a fairly good time, 4:52:xx seconds. Compliment abound! Actually, I am doing quite relax and could make a better time. But there were people said that I ran extremely fast… A false praise or superficial knowledge they have? Or simply want to make me feel contented? Haha! Doesn’t matter. After running the 1500m, frankly, I was a bit fatigue and felt lazy to run 4 x 400m. Let’s introduce my teammates first: First baton runner: Seumas Teh(also my classmate), second baton runner: Yap Tsu Sheng(Sprinter), third baton runner: Goon Wei Liam(Sportman) and lastly is me. I usually play as second or third baton runner, but due to my status, I have to run as the last baton runner…so that I can have a brief resting interval. Honestly, I am so worried about Seumas performance…Before the race, I kept on told him to run as fast as possible(he has been absent from training for months). In fact, he runs slowest among the members. Then, Yap handled over the baton and ran remarkably good, he has motivated Goon and me to run more faster. Inside my heart, I had already know champion will be us. Goon dash insanely fast and had opened quite a large gap for me. When the baton reached me, I continued to run as fast as possible…WE WON THE RACE! Great job, teammates! We marched up the stage and received the prize with a triumphant air. See our happy expression in the photo.

Sukan Gabungan ended at 11.45 am. We all once again marched to the field for closing ceremony. The time to announce Best Athlete Award has reached. Everyone stared at me, their sights made me more nervous. Indeed, I was selected…Good prediction you all have done. Felt so proud. I has been aspired this award for years. Thank You! Before returning to home, I managed to take some photo with friends and my younger brother, Chia Yuan.

This piece of delightful reminiscence will not be forgotten for ever. 吾爱吾钟灵!
