MIT GSL #Day 1

I am very honoured to be selected as one of the representatives to participate in Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Global Start-up Labs 2014 (MIT GSL). This is a rare opportunity brought by Malaysia's Ministry of Education (MoE) and Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).

I am staying inside UKM Bangi throughout this programme duration that will last from 30th June - 15th August 2014.

Hopefully at the end of the programme, I'm able to grow a team to build an innovative enterprise which is create a utility-based mobile application that could enhance people's life productivity.

I am gonna soak everything like a sponge.

What I've learnt today?

24 Steps to Entrepreneurial Success
This session was conducted by Ellen Chen and Cole Houston. They are both MIT graduates, very outspoken. This framework was outlined by a MIT entrepreneurship guru, Bill Aulet, and has been a proven strategy to grow more and better entrepreneurs.

To walk us through the 24 steps in a more practical manner, Cole asked us the
10 Questions to assist our understanding towards the 24 Steps to Entrepreneurial Success. Then, we were divided into a team of 6 individuals to brainstorm for an idea to pitch. In the process of building the idea, we were required to use the 10 questions as guidance. The practice was a perfect reflection of our level of understanding and has definitely reinforced my understanding in the 24 Steps to Entrepreneurial Success.

Also, you might be interested in learning Total Addressable Market (TAM) here.

In my own word, this framework is a market segmentation strategy that focuses on designing a solution in the form of product/service based on a specific market's need.

Next, we were ushered into the technical part of building a mobile application, conducted by Wesley Graybill and Kayla Meduna. Wesley exposed me with many web application frameworks which are completely new to me, such as Django and Ruby on Rails. He also made several comparison between Django and other frameworks, and eventually told us to stick to Django for the sake of convenience and simplicity. I will definitely need to spend time NOW to learn it.

Next, we were exposed to Python programming language which is used on writing within the Django web application framework. My friend, Johnson Yeap compared Django to a paper and Python as the ink, the ink writes on a piece of paper, and this sounds completely making sense to me, thank you, Johnson ^_^

Finally, everybody was asked to finish the complete installation of Django and Python at the end of the class.

Stay tune for my daily updates.
